BIOGRAPHY

Avi Youabian is an Iranian born filmmaker. He moved from Tehran to Los Angeles at the age of six. He graduated from the USC School of Cinematic Arts where he pursued his passion for filmmaking and began working as an editor. In 2005 he edited the Academy Award-winning short film, Westbank Story.

Over the course of his career, Avi closely collaborated with filmmakers including John Wells (The Evidence, Smith), Gary Fleder (October Road, Runaway Jury), Brad Anderson (The Call, Frequency), David Goyer (Flash Forward, Constantine) and Jon M. Chu (Never Say Never, Step Up 3D).

In 2011, he was commissioned by Hallmark Hall of Fame to direct the short film A Good Deed, written and produced by Academy Award-winner Robert Fried.

Avi went on to co-create and direct the award-winning digital series, Tainted Love – a gritty and sexy “graphic novel / live action hybrid” starring Orlando Jones, Eric Roberts, Deanna Russo, and Maz Jobrani. Tainted Love was recognized by Variety as one of the “Top 10 Digital Series of 2013.”

In 2016 avi was invited by AMC and show runner, Scott M. Gimple, to direct an episode of The Walking Dead. In early 2017 Avi directed Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon for producer Roberto Orci and Ubisoft. The 30 minute film was released exclusively on Amazon Video.

In 2018 Avi earned an Emmy nomination for The Walking Dead: The Red Machetewhich he produced and directed.

Avi’s directorial credits includes episodes from Zoo, MacGyver, and Arrow.
