Avi Youabian is an Iranian born filmmaker. He moved from Tehran to Los Angeles at the age of six. He pursued his passion for filmmaking and began working as an editor at the age of 17. In 2005 he edited the Academy Award-winning short film, Westbank Story.
Over the course of his career, Avi closely collaborated with filmmakers including John Wells, Gary Fleder, Brad Anderson, David Goyer and Jon M. Chu.
Several Avid keystrokes later, Avi directed the award-winning digital series, Tainted Love – a gritty live action graphic novel starring Orlando Jones, Eric Roberts and Maz Jobrani. Tainted Love was recognized by Variety as one of the “Top 10 Digital Series of 2013.”
In 2016 Avi was invited by AMC and showrunner, Scott M. Gimple, to direct an episode of The Walking Dead.
Avi then directed Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon for producer Roberto Orci and Ubisoft. The 30 minute film was released exclusively on Amazon Video.
In 2018 Avi earned an Emmy nomination for The Walking Dead: The Red Machete, which he produced and directed.
Avi’s directorial credits includes episodes from The Walking Dead, Zoo, MacGyver, and Arrow.
Avi resides in Encino with his wife, three children, and their pet hamster ‘Buddy’. Buddy currently has a loyal instagram following.
